My Philosophy
Kia ora. Ko Joshua Hitchcock ahau. Hello and welcome to Our World. My name is Joshua Hitchcock, I am Māori and Pākehā (New Zealand Caucasian), and I am a lawyer, specialising in Maori, Indigenous, Public and Constitutional law. On this site you will find my musings on issues relating to humanity, personal development, and economic development.
This site began life as a pursuit of ‘awesomeness’. Being awesome, as I define it, is about doing more than merely living. It is about accepting the challenge of life. Being awesome does not result in ticking off a list of things to do or see, but rather it is evidenced in your approach to life. It exists in the way you attack each day with purpose and determination. It exists in the strength and depth of your personal relationships. It exists in your ability to think critically and develop new ways of doing things. It exists in taking time to simplify your life and appreciate the true beauty of this world. And, it exists in how you view yourself, not in how the world views you.
This early emphasis on the concept of awesome failed to adequately capture who I am and what I hold to be true. Over time, Jcphitchcock.com evolved into “Our World”. Personal development, and creating the best possible life for ourselves remains at the core of my writings. But life is so much more than personal achievement. We are part of a shared existence, a shared society and a shared humanity. Our World is a recognition of this. I have taken the pursuit of awesomeness in a personal capacity and widened it to an exploration of concepts, ideals and actions that will led directly to a better world.
Work and Research Experience
My professional background is as a lawyer working in the indigenous rights and public/constitutional law fields. I write extensively on these topics over at Maori Law and Politics.
